    Q. Who do you help? What kind of tutoring do you provide?

     A. I can help improve the language skills of any child (K-6) who is experiencing challenges with English reading, writing, spelling, and/or pronunciation. A child with specific language or learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, can be helped through a specialized tutoring program, the Orton-Gillingham Approach.

    Q. What is dyslexia?

     A. Dyslexia means ‘difficulty with language’, and individuals with dyslexia have problems with reading and may also have problems with speaking, spelling, writing, attention deficit, coordination and/or math despite being of average to above-average intelligence. Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that causes these difficulties with learning and language, despite average to above-average intelligence and conventional classroom instruction.

     Q. How do I know if my child has a learning disorder?

     A. A psycho-educational assessment can be done by a school or child psychologist, which will provide you with a proper diagnosis for your child and open the door to developmental or remedial therapy. It is also a good idea for a pediatrician to examine your child to rule out any physical problems. An educational therapist can identify the signs of dyslexia and other conditions through reading and other skill screenings.

     Q. When is the best time for my child to receive educational therapy?

     A. If your child is having challenges with focusing, reading, listening, speaking and/or writing, remedial therapy by a trained educational therapist can help with these skills at any time. In fact, the earlier the intervention, the sooner these issues can be addressed and corrected before your child falls too far behind in school.

     Q. How much do your lessons cost?

     A. An initial coding assessment may need to be done at a cost of $95. Subsequent lessons are $50.00 per hour and at least two lessons are recommended per week for best results. Discounts apply if your child receives two or more lessons per week. Please see the "Packages" section for more information and email me at stacy@enlightenedliteracy.com to book.

     Q. What do you do in your lessons and how can you help my child?

     A.  During the online lesson time, I will be following a personalized Orton-Gillingham Approach with your child, which includes several types of drill work and multisensory learning, including reading, writing, speaking, and spelling to help improve his or her literacy skills.

     Q. How can I schedule lessons for my child?

     A. Lessons can be booked by email at stacy@enlightenedliteracy.com.

     Q. How long is each lesson and how long will my child need to take lessons to catch up with his/her classmates at school?

     A. Each lesson is approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your child’s age and skill level. Every child is different and no two learners are the same. The goal of Orton-Gillingham intervention and therapy is to help your child become a proficient reader, speller, and writer at the appropriate grade level as soon as possible. It is important to be patient with your child and his or her progress.

     Q. Where do your lessons take place?

     A. All lessons are currently online
